When we were moving from Seattle to Madison, we made reservations with U-Haul for their second largest truck and a vehicle carrier six weeks in advance. On the day of the move, the manager told me that he didn’t have anything available. We informed him that we made reservations, to which he replied, "I can’t make a truck." We ended up going to Penske, receiving the very last large truck available. My wife had to drive our vehicle cross-country. We got to chat to truck stops and rest areas. Fun trip.
We saved all our receipts and waited until we got settled in. We then wrote a letter to U-Haul headquarters and cc’ed it to the Seattle Better Business Association, the Washington State Attorney General Office and the U-Haul dealership that failed us.
To make a long story short, we got $1,200 from U-Haul. You must follow through when disreputable business takes advantage of you.
